Fanfiction and Fairytales: Beyond the Hero's Journey: A workshop in collaboration with FiFi Change and Jaime Prada at Central Saint Martins on Friday 14 November - Part of Thinking Through C School Symposium convened by Professor Rebecca Fortnum.
Drawing inspiration from Le Guin's 'The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction', the workshop collaboratively reimagines the hero's journey instead as a vessel for holding, nurturing and gathering. Working in groups, with prompts and chance devices such dice and cards, we select well-known stories and rewrite them. The new narratives will be presented as zines, posters, diagrams, maps or audio. The workshop moves beyond the linear, conquest seeking model of the hero’s journey to explore collective, relational and sustaining forms of storytelling that foster decolonisation, counter-hegemony and reimagined narratives.
