- Piped Oil Paintings
Oil painting on a found book made with cake decorating extruding techniques and dusted with powder pigments when still wet. Paint is squeezed directly from the tube into the piping bag where colours mix and swirl unpredictably as they being are extruded.
These are part of a series of paintings informed by a fiction of an imaginary commune in Colorado Springs whose residents search for Clement Greenberg’s ’viable essence’, a substance thought to hold both material and spiritual qualities.
The fiction and ritual are embedded in swirling moments within the oil paint as the surface dries like the skin of a crème brûlée. Occasionally trapped air bursts in a mini portal revealing another colour beneath and we glimpse unknown forces, studio anxieties and the quest for the viable essence.
